Platform 1: Homefront Spitfire Display, Anderson Shelters, Allotments, Ashford Museum and AARA

SWANCC are delighted to announce a Spitfire has been donated to be displayed on Newtown Green for the duration of the SWAN Salute.

In Memory of Flying Officer Raymond Gustave De Hasse RAFVR

A Belgian fighter pilot flying a Spitfire Mark Vb, lost in the Defence of our Nation

This will kindly be looked after by RAF Wing Ashford. Have your picture taken with the Spitfire, view the cockpit and experience this incredible Spitfire which was so key to the Defence of this Nation.

SWANCC send their grateful thanks to those who have kindly arranged this donation for the benefit of all the residents of South Willesborough and Newtown.

A unique opportunity to visit these twin Anderson shelters, which are displayed as they would have been used in the 1940s
Visitors can enter one of the Shelters to get a feel for exactly how small they were, while the other is set up as if waiting for a family to take shelter.

Ashford Active Retirement Association, A Homefront Exhibition including Ration Cards Gas Masks, Replica Uniforms, Replica Rifles and much more has kindly been put together to demonstrate the incredible resilience of the Homefront in the 1940s.

Original Wedding dress and Christening Dress made from a real 1940s nylon parachute.

                 Sewing demonstrations for darning, buttons and repairs.

Allotments
Maps of the Allotments used to Dig for Victory in Newtown, Gas House Fields Allotments today,  Living Workshop Exhibition.

Community Resilience

Kent Fire and Rescue and Neighbourhood Watch Ashford Salvation Army and SWAN Community Council bring a wealth of advice and support for residents safety and wellbeing today.

Platform 2 Main Stage: Bringing Iconic Music and Dance of the 1940s and Special Guest Stars Impersonating Sir Winston Churchill his Officers and their incredible speeches and banter.

Professional Dance Acts travelling from London and Brighton to star on Newtown Green.

Bringing the iconic dances from the 1940s a decade unrivalled by any other.

As well as Amazing Sir Winston Churchill & Officer impersonations with live speeches and banter.

Don’t miss the opportunity to experience the recruitment and drills of 1940s .

All compered by the unmatchable Town Crier from Bexhill Hill East Sussex.

Platform 3: Street Party Hospitality Area , Food Vendors, Bar and Salvation Army Emergency Vehicle

The Hospitality area will be set out with Street Party Style with seating for up to 500 plus room for picnics and groups.

With all the entertainment provided you will inevitably work up a thirst. Fantastic Local Pub the Alfred Arms will be providing a chilled bar right on the Green. Adjacent to the stage serving in vintage style.

With no need to be hungry, back by popular demand Harold’s Hog Roast, TC Trailers and more.

Also Ashford Salvation Army will be serving drinks from the Emergency Vehicle and you are also welcome to bring your own picnic  in VE DAY Style to make the most of the day.

Platform 4: Children’s’ Entertainment Free of Charge, Circus Workshops, Punch & Judy The Land train running all day, plus crafts and much more

Children will be entertained all day long from the moment they step onto the green.
Free  of charge : – All Day Rides on the Land train, Circus workshops, 3 Punch & Judy Shows from the amazing Dave Wilder and crafts and activities are provided.

The Land train brings poignant tribute to the role of the Newtown Works during the Defence of this Nation.

Bringing fun and education to the event for Children and Families throughout the day.
