SWAN YOUNG PEOPLE’S AWARDS OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO THE ENVIRONMENT AND SUSTAINABILTY OF SWAN AWARD
The following Nomination was made for Mr Marcus Evans for Outstanding Contribution to the Community Nominated by Mr S Heathfield.
I would like to nominate this young person for the Outstanding Contribution to the Environment Award because they have shown exceptional commitment to sustainability, environmental education, and community involvement through their work at the community allotment and children’s workshops.
They played an important role in helping to create and support a community allotment that promotes sustainable living, healthy eating, biodiversity, and community wellbeing. By encouraging local food growing, composting, recycling, and water
As a result of the success of the allotment project and the young person’s hard work, the community was also able to hold a successful Community Pick Your Own Pumpkin Day. Families and children were invited to harvest pumpkins grown on the allotment, helping people connect with locally grown food and understand the benefits of sustainable agriculture. The event brought the community together, encouraged outdoor learning, and celebrated the positive environmental impact of the project.
They have also demonstrated outstanding leadership in delivering educational workshops for children at the living workshop model allotment. During the Harvest Workshop, they helped children learn where food comes from, the importance of reducing waste, and how sustainable growing benefits the environment. Their hands-on approach made learning engaging, practical, and enjoyable for young participants.
In addition, they helped run a Pollinators Workshop, including creative crafts and a “Bees Are Superheroes” demonstration, which taught children about the importance of bees and other pollinators in protecting ecosystems and food supplies. Through fun and interactive activities using recycled materials, they inspired children and families to care for wildlife and take positive environmental action.
Their enthusiasm, creativity, and dedication have had a lasting impact on both the local community and younger generations. They consistently lead by example, encouraging others to adopt sustainable practices and showing that young people can make a meaningful difference to the environment. They are truly deserving of recognition for their outstanding contribution to environmental sustainability and community education
